 Dear Reader,
We are very excited to present the first issue of the Vesper Service Network e-newsletter.
About every month or so we will send you news about our partners, the organizations we serve, and the great work of our Vesper Advisors, as well as helpful information about making a difference in your world.

Name Our Newsletter Contest
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every new thing needs a name. Something that captures our attention and communicates what we are about. We would like your help in naming our newsletter. So to inspire your great thoughts, we are holding a contest. The winner will receive one free day of consulting from me, Kay Edwards, on the topic of your choice. (Look up my bio in the Vesper Service Network to see what kinds of things I've done for my clients.) I'll even get on a plane, at my expense, to work with you and the organization of your choice.
So put on your thinking caps and send us your name for our newsletter at info@vesperservice.net. I know you are a smart and creative group, and we look forward to seeing your great ideas.
Doing What We Know Inspires Us To Do More
Check out this headline from the March 2007 report, "Keeping Baby Boomers Volunteering," from the Corporation for National & Community Service.
Baby Boomers who engage in professional or management volunteer activities are the most likely to volunteer from year to year.
The year-to-year retention rate for Baby Boomer volunteers who perform more challenging assignments, such as professional or management activities (like strategic planning, volunteer management and coordination, and marketing) is the highest, at 74.8 percent, followed by Baby Boomers who engage in music or other performance arts (70.9%) and those who do tutoring, mentoring, and coaching (70.3%).
What Do Ministry Organizations Want?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over the next few weeks we are partnering with BASICS in Milwaukee to survey ministry organizations in the city of Milwaukee. BASICS is a Christian organization which provides "ministry outreach leadership and resources" to prepare indigenous leaders to support sustainable community development by integrating spiritual, social and physical aspects into the change process.

We want to hear from ministry leaders about the greatest challenges they face and the kinds of resources they need. If you want to be a part of this study, send us an e-mail at info@vesperservice.net, and we'll add you to the distribution list. Everyone who completes the survey will get a coupon for $200 off their next Vesper Advisor service project.

Find Answers in the Forum

Members of the Vesper Service Network can find answers to their questions about not-for-profit organizations in the Vesper Discussion Forum. Recently several of our members helped a ministry organization find sample job descriptions for a Director of Operations.
Even if you don't have a specific project to do, the Discussion Forum gives you access to smart people with lots of expertise. Check it out at http://www.vesperservice.net/forum.php
Tip of the Month: It only takes a day to make a difference
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You want to make a difference in your community, but think that your schedule is too full?  You really can make a difference in just a day.  The quality of the time you spend volunteering can more than make up for the quantity, especially if you are doing something that is highly skilled and not just anyone can do.
